Council still footing the bill for Monikie house clear-ups
ByNews reporter
Angus Council remains more than £32,000 out of pocket in the saga of a rural house enforcement action.
Since 2007, the authority has twice taken direct action to clean up the garden of a property in Broomwell Gardens, Monikie, after neighbours complained about building materials, boats and other items.
The first action cost the council £16,146 and the bill has now accrued £3,100 of interest.
Around a year later contractors were back at the property for another clean-up, at a cost of £12,968.
More materials have now been brought back into the garden in breach of a council amenity notice and court interdict.
Angus planning officials say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
The property owner has now been served with a sequestration order as the council attempts to recover the monies due.
Development standards committee members were given an update on the situation at their latest meeting.
It is understood that the bill has not been settled and attempts to recover the money continue.
