A German man remained in a critical condition in hospital yesterday after being struck by a train in remote Highland Perthshire.
The 49-year-old, who has not been named by police, suffered injuries described as life-threatening after being hit by the train near Rannoch Station at 6.40pm on Tuesday.
He was airlifted to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
His 87-year-old father, also a German national, was also struck but escaped with minor injuries and was treated at Belford Hospital in Fort William before being released on Wednesday.
The pair are believed to have been making their way along the line on foot after a fishing trip when they were hit by the Mallaig to Glasgow Queen Street train.
The line was closed for hours as the investigation began.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: ”The 49-year-old man, from Germany, remains in a critical condition with injuries that are described as life-threatening.”
