Dunfermline Athletic are standing by midfielder Ryan Thomson after he was charged over an alleged Glasgow street brawl.
Thomson presented himself at Govan Police Station on Tuesday afternoon to be questioned by officers in connection with an incident in Paisley Road West.
A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: ”A 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on Paisley Road West.”
He was later charged.
The incident is alleged to have happened on August 12, the day after Mr Thomson scored twice to help his team open the season by demolishing Cowdenbeath 4-0 in the Fife derby at Central Park.
Speaking before news emerged that Mr Thomson had been charged, club chairman John Yorkston confirmed the Glasgow-born 21-year-old had spoken to manager Jim Jefferies about the issue.
Mr Yorkston said: ”Ryan has reported an incident to the manager, who has reported it to me. He has also spoken to the police about it.
”The manager has dealt with it as far as the club is concerned. They have had discussions. As far as everyone is concerned it’s finished.”
