Raith boss John McGlynn hailed his side’s victory over Montrose in their first pre-season game as a “useful exercise.”
McGlynn’s men fought back from the loss of an early goal to win 3-1 and he was delighted to give 18 players a run-out.
McGlynn said, “We had a few new players and it was good to get them involved playing as a team.
“I was pleased with the performance overall.”
He continued, “We will step things up again on Tuesday when we play Forfar and one or two different players will start.”
Montrose boss Steven Tweed declined to name the five trialists who featured for his side, but the two who started as his front pairing combined in eight minutes and the number nine shot into the bottom corner.
Raith equalised in 17 minutes. A corner was cleared as far as Gregory Tade who volleyed back into the danger area and Iain Davidson headed home.
Montrose sent on two trialists after the break and within two minutes, one of them had given away a penalty by tripping Simmons and Williamson scored from the spot.
In 53 minutes, some slick passing by Raith ended with Davidson setting up Baird to sidefoot home.
