A popular and highly respected teacher who spent more than two decades at a Dundee primary has died, aged 77.
Mrs Ella Swadel, who devoted much of her life to pupils at Douglas Primary, was the eldest of two children to Annabella and John Bremner.
She was born in Dundee and brought up in Bridgefoot, found to the north of the city, and educated in Rockwell High School.
After finishing her studies, Mrs Swadel took on secretarial work with a local firm and it was around this time she met husband-to-be David, as the pair travelled by bus from Bridgefoot to work in the city centre.
In 1957 the couple married in Dundee. They went on to have two sons.
Towards the end of the 1960s, Mrs Swadel decided to change her career.
In 1971 she enrolled in teacher training college, which she graduated from in 1974.
Almost immediately she secured a job at Douglas primary and would remain at the school until her retirement in 1995.
Just two years later the family suffered a devastating blow when David passed away.
Determined to stay active, Mrs Swadel volunteered in the Cancer Research shop in Broughty Ferry for many years.
The job also afforded her an opportunity to enjoy her passion for socialising and she had a wide network of friends.
Mrs Swadel passed away at Ninewells Hospital last week, following a short illness.
She is survived by her sons, Gavin and Mark, as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
