He passed away at his West End home following a long illness. The son of Robert Hood and Isabella Mathers, Mr Hood was born in Carnoustie in 1924. He attended the High School of Dundee before joining Don and Stewart as an apprentice chartered accountant. He served as an officer in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, after which he joined his family’s coal business He married Gladys Ireland in 1950, and their daughter Jill was born in 1952. When the coal business ceased trading in 1980, Mr Hood became manager at a scrap company operating from Verdant Works until his retirement. He was a member of Carnoustie, Dalhousie and Blairgowrie golf clubs. Jill said: ”He and my mother were very sociable and had many friends and enjoyed going on cruises.” Mr Hood was also a member of Dundee and West End Angling clubs and was a former president of the High School Old Boys and a Rotarian. Mr Hood is survived by his wife and daughter.
