A knife-wielding robber has been jailed for two years for carrying out a morning raid at a Fife shop.
Ryan Douglas (36), of Denvale Gardens, Kennoway, pleaded guilty to a charge that on April 4 at the Mossgreen Shop, Mossgreen, Crossgates, he entered the premises with his face partially masked and assaulted a female shop assistant, presented a knife at her and robbed her of a quantity of money.
At the time of the raid, Fife Police revealed that a man, who was said to be wearing a balaclava, threatened workers with the weapon before stealing a three-figure sum of money.
Police released CCTV images of the knife-point robbery, and Detective Sergeant Jimmy Adamson, who led the investigation, said the role of the media including The Courier had helped track down the accused.
He said:”I was confident that although the individual had been wearing an open-faced ski mask, enough of his face was visible to allow identification. In consultation with the Crown it was agreed that an image of the suspect be circulated to the media and as a result of The Courier’s and other coverage of the story, we received information which named the individual responsible.”
Douglas was sentenced at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
