Former Cupar Town Council chamberlain David Gourley has died at the age of 76.
David was born in Johnstone in 1936 and educated in Glasgow.
He trained in accounting in Glasgow, before moving to work in local government, first in Johnstone and then as assistant town chamberlain in Gourock.
He married Margaret McLaren in Oban in 1965.
They moved east to Cupar when he was given the post of town chamberlain of Cupar Town Council in 1968, becoming one of the youngest town chamberlains in Scotland.
Mr Gourley remained until reorganisation of local government in 1975, when he was appointed assistant director of finance for North East Fife District Council.
He retired from that post in 1987 but went on to work for accountancy firm Henderson and Loggie in Dundee and was accountant for the University of St Andrews Students’ Association in 1993.
He finally retired in 2007 at the age of 71.
David loved his adopted home town of Cupar and the Isle of Mull, where the family went every year for their annual holiday.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, his four children Charlie, David, Iain and Patricia, and 13 grandchildren.
