A Dundee shopkeeper, who sold ice cream for almost five decades, has died aged 86.
Maria Iannetta was a well-known face in the Hilltown community, selling confectionery and ice cream from her store, Iannetta’s.
Miss Iannetta, who was born and brought up in Belmonte Castello in Italy, moved to the city in 1949 to work in her uncle’s ice cream business.
The hard-working shopkeeper, who lived in the flat above the shop, eventually took over the running of the business before she retired at the age of 74.
Miss Iannetta’s niece Maria Hadden paid tribute to her aunt’s hard work ethic.
“She opened the shop seven days a week, 365 days a year,” she said.
“She even opened for a few hours on Christmas and New Year.”
She added, “She seemed to be part of the furniture in the Hilltown as so many people remember her making ice cream there.”
Miss Iannetta was pre-deceased by her sister Gina and is survived by her sisters Lucia, Lina, Concetta and Iolanda, and her brothers Antonio and Filippo.
