Two children were hurt and three adults trapped when two cars collided between Falkland and Strathmiglo.
The youngsters managed to free themselves from the Ford Focus they were travelling in before emergency services arrived and escaped with only minor injuries.
Firefighters had to release the female driver of a Ford Focus and the driver and passenger of a Citroen Xantia.
All five were taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
The driver of the Focus was believed to have leg injuries.
It was not known what injuries the other casualties sustained, but a police spokeswoman confirmed no-one had been seriously hurt.
The collision occurred on the A912 near Easter Cash Farm just before 12.20pm on Monday.
The road was closed to allow Fife Council workers to deal with an oil spillage.
A spokesman for Fife Fire and Rescue Service said, “We were called to a two-car collision and released three adults.
“Two child casualties were released prior to our arrival.”
