The former head teacher of St Ninian’s Primary School in Perth, Freda Cameron, has died aged 61.
Mrs Cameron died on Sunday after battling cancer for more than 18 months.
Well-known to generations of school children, Mrs Cameron spent 15 years as head teacher at St Ninian’s.
Born in Madderty, she attended the village primary school and then Perth Academy. She trained at Moray House School of Education in Edinburgh and started her working career at Tulloch Primary School.
She married Duncan Cameron at Madderty Parish Church in 1972 and the couple went on to have three children, Hazel, Atholl and Calum.
After taking time off work to be a stay-at-home mum, Mrs Cameron started as a supply teacher at St Ninian’s. After a couple of years she became a permanent member of the team and later took over the running of the school.
Mr Cameron said, “Teaching was her life. Each of the children meant a lot to her and she still remembered them years later.”
In her spare time Mrs Cameron enjoyed painting and needlework.
She is survived by husband Duncan, their three children and two granddaughters.
