Ronald Flight, a prominent figure in Dundee industry, has died aged 80.
He gave lifelong service to major city companies, industrial organisations and community groups and was active long into his retirement until he was diagnosed with cancer five weeks ago.
His son Graham said his father, who was devoted to his family, had so many interests it was difficult to list them all.
“All his life he had a passion for industry in Dundee, and it is for that he will be best remembered,” he added.
Mr Flight was educated at Ancrum Road and Logie schools and served his jute apprenticeship with D. Pirie & Co.
He spent seven years in India and worked for several firms in Dundee before joining Thomson Shepherd as sales director (yarns) in 1967 and taking responsibility for exports in 1974.
He later became sales marketing and export director with James Keiller & Sons Ltd and chairman of Shaws Sweet Factory, and advised budding entrepreneurs as part of the Dundee Opportunities team.
He was involved with the chamber of commerce, Dundee Enterprise Trust and Dundee Education Industry Partnership.
A keen sportsman, he was still active in public life this year.
Mr Flight is survived by wife Marjory, sons Graham and Christopher, daughter Judith and grandchildren.
