A man who was left crippled for life after a pub assault in Leven has died.
The Courier understands Kenneth Dick (45), who lived locally, passed away last week.
Mr Dick was left partially paralysed, unable to swallow food and on medication to control life-threatening fits after an attack in Blazers Fun Pub in February last year.
The following November, David Hay (46), of Methil, was jailed for 10 years for attempted murder, after a jury unanimously found him guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Hay, who claimed in court that another man had carried out the attack, has since lodged an appeal against his conviction.
The Crown Office confirmed Mr Dick’s death was under investigation but would not comment on the possibility of a retrial.
A spokesman for the Crown Office said, “We can confirm that we have received a report in connection with the death of Kenneth Dick (45) in November 2010.
“The circumstances of his death remain under investigation, under the direction of the procurator fiscal.
“Inquiries are continuing and, due to ongoing legal proceedings, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
