Former Barnhill fishmonger Les Greenhill has died. He was 71.
He had been in good health but suffered severe stomach pains on Monday night and was admitted to hospital, where he did not survive emergency surgery.
Mr Greenhill ran a fishmonger’s business at Campfield Square for about 10 years during the 1980s and continued from a van, serving customers in Broughty Ferry and Barnhill and as far afield as Crieff and Forfar.
He had been in partnership with friend Tom Dowie, with whom he operated the Arbroath trawler Shamara.
Mr Greenhill divided his time between working on the boat and filleting and serving the fish from his shop.
Originally from Lochee, Mr Greenhill trained as a joiner and worked at the trade before selling fish.
His wife Lorna said he loved his fishmonger’s business and got to know many customers both at the shop which now sells greetings cards and with the van.
He retired nearly 10 years ago, but kept active, mainly by playing golf at Caird and Camperdown courses and also through his joinery.
The couple lived close to the shop in Barnhill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, a daughter and grandchildren.
