Tayside Police officers are set to travel to England to interview Lee Cyrus after the fugitive was captured in London at the weekend.
Cyrus is believed to have been in Perth at the time a brutal sex attack was carried out on a woman in the Bridgend area. A mattress was later stolen from the victim’s home and was recovered from the River Tay.
A pensioner was also attacked in her home in the city during the terrifying events of October.
Cyrus (47), also known as Ivan Leach, is thought to have been in Tayside between October 13 and 16.
Police had warned the public not to approach Cyrus, who they described as a ”significant risk”, under any circumstances.
The 55-day search ended early on Sunday morning when he was tracked down in the Camden area of London and arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.
Scotland Yard confirmed he was being questioned in a North London police station.
A Tayside Police spokesman said: ”Tayside Police are aware of the arrest of Lee Cyrus, aka Ivan Leach, in London and are liaising with colleagues in the Metropolitan Police.”
The search for Cyrus in Tayside began after police, acting on ”strong intelligence” he was in the area, issued an appeal for public help in tracing him. It is thought he travelled to Tayside and remained in Scotland for several days before heading south again.
The police were inundated with ”sightings” of Cyrus by frightened people in Perth and beyond, many of whom said they were too scared to leave their homes at night.
