A grieving Monifieth pensioner told how she found her beloved partner lying dead on a frozen footpath.
Freda McLean (78), of Panmurefield Terrace, did not want to believe Grahame Johnston (79) was dead.
Frantically, she phoned an ambulance for her partner of 23 years but he was already dead by the time paramedics arrived on the scene on a path next to Monifieth High School on Wednesday morning.
Grahame, who worked at the Liquor Store in Monifieth with Freda, had gone out for his usual early-morning walk with the couple’s two dogs.
”He used to go out about 4.30am and he went out about 4.15 with both dogs as usual,” Freda said.
”He just said ‘I’m off.’ That’s what he always said and I went and made some porridge for breakfast.”
Grahame had still not returned home half an hour later and Freda began to worry.
She looked along the road but there was no sign of him or the dogs. She then phoned his mobile but it went to voicemail.
”When I went up the path I saw the dogs at the bend in the road, just standing there and it didn’t look normal.
”He was lying round the corner but when I went up to him he was very still and his face was grey.”
Freda phoned an ambulance for Mr Johnston and was asked to try to find signs of life while waiting for paramedics.
Mr johnston had lived in Monifieth since 1989. He and Freda were both originally from Dundee.
