Cowdenbeath tried to switch their fourth round Scottish Cup tie with St Johnstone to McDiarmid Park in a bid to get the game played, Courier Sport has learned.
After seeing the fixture postponed three times already, both teams will have their eyes on the forecast as they prepare to try again at Central Park on Wednesday evening although with more frost and snow showers expected, the prospects of a successful outcome don’t look particularly good.
An inspection of the surface will take place this afternoon and, if it fails to make it for a fourth time, the match is expected to be rescheduled again to Monday evening as per SFA rules.
It emerged on Monday that Cowden had even offered to play in Perth in a bid to fulfill the fixture, but officials at the SFA flatly turned down the Fife club’s suggestion leaving both teams with yet another anxious wait.
Office manager John Cameron revealed: ”We did offer to switch it but the SFA told us it wasn’t possible because we had home advantage and it was to stay that way.
”Around 80% of the pitch was actually OK on Sunday but there was about 20% which was unplayable, so the referee decided to call it off.
”We’ll now have to keep trying Monday/Wednesday, Monday/Wednesday until we can get the game played, but we are where we are.
”The weather for the next few days doesn’t look good and there’s snow in the forecast, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Cowden, who also saw their scheduled First Division match against Partick Thistle fall foul of the weather on Saturday, have not hosted a competitive fixture at Central Park since November 17, when they drew 1-1 with Airdrie United.
