The football community joined family and friends of Doug Smith at the Dundee United legend’s funeral yesterday.
Dundee Parish Church (St Mary’s) in the heart of the city was packed as tributes were paid to the man who served the Tangerines so well as player, director and chairman.
Leading the Tannadice club’s contingent was current chairman Stephen Thompson, who was accompanied by fellow board members and past and present employees.
Former United players Dave Narey, Paul Hegarty, Hamish McAlpine, Dave Bowman, George Fleming and Kenny Cameron acted as pall-bearers and carried the coffin out of the church.
Also paying their respects were former United trio Ray Stewart, Billy Kirkwood and John Reilly, Rangers non-executive director Walter Smith, Aberdeen assistant boss Archie Knox, Pittodrie first-team coach Jocky Scott and former St Johnstone chairman Geoff Brown.
Representing the wider football family were Scottish Football Association president Campbell Ogilvie, his predecessor at Hampden George Peat, Scottish Football League chief executive David Longmuir and former Celtic chairman Jack McGinn.
