Cowdenbeath are hoping the frozen pitch that twice resulted in the cancellation of their Scottish Cup tie with St Johnstone will thaw sufficiently for this weekend’s visit of Partick Thistle.
Sub-zero temperatures forced the postponement of Saints’ cup visit on Saturday and again last night, although the two teams will try again on Monday evening at 7.45pm.
However, before then there is a league fixture with First Division leaders Partick and club officials have their fingers crossed that the Central Park grass will recover this week.
A club spokesperson said there was still some snow to be cleared but all of the frost covers were lifted from the pitch on Monday evening, hopefully giving enough time for the surface to soften.
Rain is forecast for the area tomorrow, although temperatures are expected to hover just above freezing for the rest of the week, with night frosts.
Meanwhile, Cowdenbeath player/manager Colin Cameron has admitted that he has had to put the brakes on Scott Linton’s attempts to get fit again, as the player was pushing himself too hard.
The 23-year-old has been out of action for six weeks after picking up a knee injury and he recently returned to training.
However, Cameron had to tell Linton to take things a bit easier as he was doing too much in his effort to get playing again.
Cameron said: ”It is a great to see a young lad so keen to get involved but we had to tell him to slow down a wee bit.
”He was pushing and pushing but we want to make sure that when he comes back he stays back.
”We will build his training up with him.”
