Famous Scottish macaroon maker Lees yesterday warned independence could potentially impact on its business.
The firm – which employs 300 staff – said it did a significant percentage of its trade south of the border and if Scotland became independent it could be “disadvantaged in its dealing with its major UK customers.”
However, the firm’s concerns are not stopping it from investing £1.7 million to upgrade its snowball and teacakes manufacturing line.
New figures published by the firm yesterday showed total sales increased by 21.5% to £26.3 million in 2013, generating an overall pre-tax profit of £1.4m.
Chief executive Clive Miquel – who said a new design for its iconic macaroon bar would be introduced next month – said the majority of growth had come from sales of its snowball and teacake ranges.
