Hardware built in Fife has been praised by UK oil and gas explorer and producer Premier after being successfully installed in the seas west of Shetland.
The company yesterday said it was now poised to begin the commissioning and hook-up programme for the Solan project’s subsea storage tank, jacket and topsides complex.
Two 8,500-tonne platform jackets left BiFab’s fabrication yard in Methil early last month, while the heavy engineering firm also produced the main, 3,500- tonne accommodation and operational block as part of a £147m contract which has brought 350 jobs to Fife.
Premier Oil has long hoped to begin production at the site before the end of this year, but yesterday said the exact timetable would be dependent on the progress of the commissioning phase.
