Doubling of public-sector contracts for Scottish firms

The number of public- sector contracts awarded to Scottish companies has doubled.

New figures show 12,000 firms were awarded work through the Public Contracts Scotland portal, twice the number seen two years ago.

There are currently 86,000 businesses the majority of which are SMEs registered as suppliers with PCS.

Finance Secretary John Swinney said: “Measures to simplify and streamline processes are giving thousands of businesses across Scotland an opportunity to flourish.

“Through our community benefit clauses we have given communities a guarantee that they will get something back from businesses operating in their area.”
