The owners of the Overgate shopping centre in Dundee are set to welcome two new stores.
In their latest trading statement, Land Securities say fitting out of the unit to be occupied by computer retailer Stormfront is under way. The shop, which specialises in Apple products, will open in early August.
Another unit has been let to clothing retailer Superdry.
Land Securities bought the Overgate for £140 million last year. The centre attracts around 14 million visitors a year.
Katherine Armstead, portfolio manager for Scotland, said the company was also making good progress with its Buchanan Street development in Glasgow and the refurbishment of Aberdeen’s Bon Accord centre.
She said, “We are continuing to see a steady flow of lettings across our Scottish centres.”
Land Securities chief executive Francis Salway said there had been uncertainty in the wider economy but the company believed it was continuing to find opportunities to create value.
“The outlook for development in London remains attractive and, despite the mixed messages in the retail sector, our leasing activity demonstrates that the stronger retailers are looking to take new space.
“This retail demand has meant we have over the last few months also begun to step up our activity in retail development, predominantly in edge-of-town locations, and we now have a £275 million, 1m sq ft pipeline of opportunities to meet the growing demand from food and fashion retailers for space.
“Once again, we will look to marry our development expertise with retailer commitment to a scheme before we take these opportunities forward.”
