A major conference in Fife is set to help local businesses seize a slice of Scotland’s multi-billion-pound tourism industry.
Organisations across Tayside and Fife are being urged to grab the last few spaces at the event being held at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews next month.
The Fife Tourism Conference was a sell-out when last staged in 2009 and early indications suggest 2011 will be a similar story.
A spokesman said, “Scores of local operators have already registered for the event which will be held on Tuesday, March 15.
“Suitable for businesses of all sizes, the conference brings together an array of top-class speakers. They will draw upon their real-life business experiences to provide practical advice, ideas and inspiration.”
This year’s programme to be chaired by one of the country’s leading hoteliers, Stephen Carter will feature a keynote speech from VisitScotland chairman Dr Mike Cantlay.
It will also include an address by award-winning self-catering operator John Parker, the new chairman of Fife Tourism Partnership.
There will be a range of practical workshops and Dr Cantlay is sure it will be a day to remember. He is also convinced that it will sew potentially lucrative seeds.
“I am keen to outline what VisitScotland can do for Tayside and Fife businesses, tourism groups and local authorities, and highlight opportunities for continued partnership working,” he said.
“However, I am also interested in engaging with the industry and agencies, to listen and learn, understand their ambitions and concerns, and encourage big ideas for tourism growth.”
With Scotland still in the grip of the global downturn, Dr Cantlay said the lifeblood tourism industry had a critical role to play.
“In the current economic climate it is more important than ever that we work together to identify the opportunities for growth in tourism,” he said. “The sector is one of the bedrocks of Scotland’s economy.”
The conference will be sponsored by Fife Tourism Partnership, Scottish Enterprise and VisitScotland. To reserve a place visit www.eventbrite.com
