Perth-based SSE’s renewable energy division has significantly scaled back its plans for a major wind turbine scheme in Sutherland.
The company said it was now seeking permissions for a 47-turbine scheme at Strathy South instead of the original 77 turbine array.
The developer said the change addresses concerns raised by consultees in 2007 when the scheme was originally submitted for planning.
SSE Renewables director Colin Nicol said: “Whilst we have lost a significant number of turbines from these design changes, we feel that the environmental gain has been worth it and that this is now a much stronger proposal.”
A formal consultation period run by the Scottish Government will now follow the submission of the amended plans.
