Thorntons merging with St Andrews and Cupar legal firms
ByGraham Huband
A major new rival to the dominant Central Belt law firms is being created by the merger of three leading Tayside and Fife legal practices.
Dundee-based Thorntons already the largest practice in Tayside is to merge with Murray Donald of St Andrews and Cupar’s Steel Eldridge Stewart.
All staff at the three firms are being retained.
The enlarged business will trade under the Thorntons brand and will be the largest full service legal practice operating in the east of Scotland.
The merged firm will employ around 400 staff and will have annual revenues of around £20 million, a figure which puts it on the cusp of breaking into the top 10 practices in Scotland by turnover.
