Plans for a major UK carbon capture and storage project have taken a step closer to securing a £250 million European cash boost.
Alstom and BOC’s White Rose project at Drax in Yorkshire would generate electricity for more than 630,000 homes once operational, with captured C02 being transported for storage in a facility under the North Sea.
The project now looks set to receive a share of a £1.2 billion EU prize fund after being the only CCS project put forward by the UK Government for consideration for NER300 cash.
Last year Shell and SSE ruled out applying for a share of the fund for the proposed carbon capture and storage scheme for Peterhead Power Station.
