Perthshire butcher Simon Howie has teed up a six-figure sales boost after winning supply contracts for this weekend’s Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
The entrepreneur’s food company, based at nearby Findory Farm, will supply corporate hospitality providers Compass Group and Mecco, as well as mobile caterers Express Cafes at the golfing clash.
More than 1,500 racks of Scotch Lamb were supplied to Wednesday’s Ryder Cup Gala Dinner and more than 20,000 Simon Howie burgers will be enjoyed throughout the course of the three day event.
The new business was secured through a special supplier day at Hampden Park in January, coordinated by industry body Scotland Food & Drink.
Simon Howie managing director William Ovens said the business had seen its busiest week in the company’s history outside the festive season, with a hike in trade also in evidence in areas surrounding the event.
“Alongside the positive impact on our restaurant and food service business, with the associated sales uplift stretching as far as Dundee and Glasgow, we are also seeing an upturn in business in our own retail shops in Auchterarder and Perth,” he said.
