Dundee bus operator National Express yesterday revealed its joint venture in Bahrain had won a 10-year deal to operate services in the Middle East state.
Bahrain Public Transport Company, a partnership with local conglomerate Ahmed Mansoor Al A’Ali, was handed the deal which is worth an estimated £170 million of revenue over the coming decade by the Bahraini Ministry of Transportation.
The contract will see 141 new vehicles serve capital Manama and inter-city routes across the kingdom.
National Express said the deal was significant for the firm as it opens a new regional market and may provide a “springboard” for further opportunities.
“Building on our recent German rail success, we are delighted that our reputation for operational excellence is opening up further exciting, new markets,” said chief executive Dean Finch.
“We expect this win to provide a platform for further expansion in the region, and our team are already working on other opportunities.”
