Ravensby Glass of Dundee has won a major industry accolade, being voted glass company of the year in the G14 awards.
The event recognises innovation, development and commitment in the glass and glazing industry, and the prize was presented at a gala evening in the London Hilton on Park Lane hosted by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges.
Ravensby, which was shortlisted in the manufacturing category in this year’s Courier Business Awards, was a finalist in last year’s Glass and Glazing Federation-organised awards.
Managing director Gordon Dickson said: “It was quite something to go so close the first time we entered the competition last year, and to win it in our second year is fantastic.
“It is a major achievement for our business and our people. We would not have a business without our people, and this is a terrific boost for their morale as well as a sales tool we can take to customers, most of whom are in England.”
The company, based in the West Pitkerro Industrial Estate, has been trading since 1985 and is part of the Malcolm, Ogilvie & Co Group that has been manufacturing in Dundee for more than 160 years.
The workforce of more than 80 make glass and related products for a range of purposes in the public, residential, commercial, historic and medical sectors.
Ravensby Glass is installed in the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, and at the Declaration of Scottish Independence display at Arbroath.
The company expanded last year with a £6 million investment in machinery, new offices and a training facility.
It has already achieved professional recognition this year as the winner of the Chief Executive’s Scottish Engineering President’s award for outstanding achievement.
Tony Higgin, organiser of the G-Awards, said: “After 11 years, the G-Awards are still going strong thanks to the continuously excellent standard of entries we receive.
“All our finalists should be extremely proud, and our winners represent everything to which we all aspire in terms of commitment, dedication and passion. This is what makes our industry great.”
