A major law firm has moved to new enlarged premises in Dundee after hitting growth targets for its business in the city.
Central Belt-based Lindsays said it had taken on new modern offices at the city’s Seabraes development after seeing its operations increase since a successful merger with local firm Shield & Kyd a fixture of the city’s legal fraternity since 1868 in May 2012.
The firm had continued to operate from Shield & Kyd’s traditional offices in Bank Street following the merger but the company’s workforce in the city had grown by almost a third as it expanded its range of client services into fields including commercial property, dispute resolution and corporate advice.
Lindsays which has six offices nationally and employs more than 200 staff including 28 partners yesterday said the regeneration of Dundee’s economy provided opportunities for the company to increase its presence in the city still further.
Derek Petrie, partner in charge of the Dundee office, said Lindsays was delighted to be playing a part in the wider Dundee success story.
“Dundee is one of Scotland’s main economic drivers, with a population of almost 150,000 people, and more than 325,000 living within a half-hour drive,” Mr Petrie said.
“There is lots of major activity in the city.
“For example, in the past few months we have seen the opening of the Malmaison Hotel and the announcement of a new Sleeperz 120-bedroomed hotel, renewables company Kilmac opened a Dundee base, a major new offshore engineering facility opened at Dundee docks after the first phase of a £2.5m investment, and Yoyo Games announced a partnership with Sony.
“All encouraging news, and all indicative of growing confidence in the economy of Dundee and Tayside.
“Add in to that mix the massive impact that the Dundee Waterfront and V&A project is having and will have, and you can see why we are delighted to be a growing part of the city’s exciting future.”
The move comes on the back of a strong period of growth for Lindsays, with turnover across the group increasing by 7.8% to £11.4m.
“It has been two years since we announced the merger, and we are delighted that our ambitious targets for growth in Dundee are being achieved, reinforced by new key members joining our legal team,” managing partner Alasdair Cummings said.
“At the time I said the merger was a perfect fit, and it has certainly proven to be,” he added.
