Insight into employee ownership for Scottish business leaders
ByGraham Huband
Scottish business leaders received an insight into the benefits of employee ownership at a Co-operative Development Scotland event yesterday.
John Lewis Glasgow managing director Kim Lowe gave the keynote address at the session in Edinburgh where she spoke about the upsides of working under an ownership model im which each employee is deemed a partner in the business.
“Because each and every partner shares in the profits of the business, they feel a real sense of ownership and so take responsibility for its performance,” Ms Lowe said.
“The millions of individual decisions and actions taken by partners in our shops, offices and distribution centres every day breeds a powerful working culture.”
Major employee owned businesses in east central Scotland include papermaker Tullis Russell and textiles manufacturer Scott & Fyfe, both of which are based in Fife.
