Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission is renewing recruitment to its successful trainee engineer programme whose graduates keep the country’s lights on.
The three-year programme combines work- based experience with studying for a foundation degree in electrical power engineering.
The company meets pay and training costs in addition to providing training, and jobs are guaranteed to all students who successfully complete the course.
In the first year, trainee engineers attend either Aston University in Birmingham or Inverness College.
Time is also spent on placements at depots, power stations and control rooms, working alongside experienced engineers.
Around 180 graduates have been recruited since the course began in 2007, and 95% have remained with the company which maintains the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland.
