Scottish energy and Enterprise Minister Fergus Ewing will make a keynote address to hundreds of oil and gas industry representatives at a major conference in Fife next month.
Organised by industry body Oil & Gas UK and Decom North Sea, the Offshore Decommissioning Conference will take place at the Fairmont St Andrews Resort over three days from October 1.
“Decommissioning will develop into a major business activity, and it is critical that we in Scotland receive economic benefits from this,” Mr Ewing said.
“The decommissioning of North Sea oil and gas facilities is projected to cost £31.5 billion or more over the next three decades.
“This clearly represents a growing business opportunity, as well as a challenge for the Scottish supply chain.”
Brian Nixon, Decom North Sea’s chief executive, said that the conference will “focus on the challenges and opportunities for decommissioning both in the UK and internationally and has attracted delegates from around the world”.
