Remote airports in the outer Isles have again eclipsed the performance of Dundee’s Riverside airstrip.
New passenger figures from operator HIAL show that 22,948 people flew in and out of Dundee in 2015.
That represents an increase of just 83 passengers on 2014 and leaves Dundee trailing in the wake of destinations such as Islay, Benbecula and Wick John o’ Groats.
Inverness was again HIAL’s best performing airport with 678,683 passengers in the 12 month period almost 30 times as many visitors as Dundee.
The situation did improve for Dundee Airport during the final quarter of the year when it recorded a 9.1% increase in traffic equivalent to an almost 500 passenger uplift to handle 5,909 passengers,
HIAL said Dundee had ended the year in a “strong position” after two consecutive quarters of growth led by increased golf leisure traffic and growing demand for the daily Stansted flight.
HIAL managing director Inglis Lyon said the past 12 months had been the busiest in the organisation’s 30-year history.
