SCOTLAND’S EXPORT assault on the major BRIC economies received a boost yesterday as Scottish Development International opened a new Brazil outpost.
SDI already has offices in India, Russia and China and the new Rio de Janeiro outlet completes the BRIC set.
Brazil is one of the world’s most rapidly developing economies and is set for a further economic boost as hosts of both the World Cup and Olympics over the next three years.
The country Scotland’s 13th largest export market with goods and services mostly food and energy-related worth £435 million traded during 2011.
In excess of 30 Scottish companies including Hydrasun and engineering giant Wood Group already operate in Brazil but SDI chief executive Anne MacColl said there was scope for many more.
