Dundee shopfitting company Caledonia Contracts hopes to brew up more business from the opening of Starbucks drive-thru coffee shops in Scotland.
The company completed the first drive-thru Starbucks north of the Border at Linwood in Renfrewshire, on the site of the former Hillman car factory.
Another drive-thru is earmarked for a site in the Dunsinane industrial estate in Dundee, and a further one is expected to open in Dunfermline later this year.
Caledonia, based in the West Pitkerro industrial estate, has worked with the US coffee house chain for 10 years completing more than 100 stores in the UK.
It was one of a handful of contractors trusted by the Seattle-based company to fit-out its British outlets.
Stuart McNally, operations director of Caledonia, said: “The continued expansion of Starbucks in Scotland means potential growth for Caledonia Contracts and, in turn, sustaining and growing our skilled workforce.”
He added: “We, as Starbucks’ preferred contractor for Scotland, hope to be involved with the drive-thru projects which will potentially punctuate the high roads and low roads of Scotland, giving a welcome respite to commuters.”
Linwood franchisee JJ O’Hara said they looked forward to growing the franchise network in Scotland.”
Starbucks would share the Dunsinane site in Dundee with the Domino’s pizza chain, and the two franchises would together create around 80 jobs.
An attraction of the site is its proximity to and visibility from Kingsway, offering passing motorists the opportunity of a quick detour for a coffee and pizza.
Joup Property Ltd, which submitted the planning application, is interested in the site of the former Valentine’s card factory at Dunsinane. Other Dundee sites including the Stack Leisure Park and the centre of Lochee were ruled out because they do not attract as much passing traffic.
Caledonia was founded in the 1990s and has grown to become a significant shopfitting contractor in the retail, commercial and educational sectors.
The company recently completed a Starbucks in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Other clients include Schuh, M&S Simply Food, William Hill, JD Sports and Apex Hotels.
