A major Scottish wind farm development was given a boost yesterday after the award of a £14 million contract for the main on-site construction works.
The renewable energy development division of Perth-based utility SSE yesterday agreed a deal with Highlands-based civil contractor RJ McLeod for the provision of construction services at its Strathy North site in Sutherland.
The 33 turbine development is expected to take two years to complete and total investment at the site is expected to reach £109m.
RJ McLeod’s first task will be to build out the main access route and ancillary roads at the site before construction of the turbine bases later in the year.
The contractor’s North Director Sandy Osborne, said: “We are delighted to be working with SSE Renewables once again. We have now built over fifty wind farms, including eight for SSE Renewables, and the Strathy North project will allow us to continue to provide ongoing, and additional, employment for technical and construction staff.”
