Exports of top-quality Label Rouge Scottish-farmed salmon increased by 7% last year.
Sales of the fish, the first overseas product to obtain the French Government’s Label Rouge mark of distinction, rose to 7,346 tonnes during the year from 6,894 in the previous 12-month period.
The figure is still below the 7,743 tonnes which were exported in 2010, however.
Scottish Salmon Producers Organisationchief Scott Landsburgh said: “These figures reflect the hard work of our members in producing and exporting the highest-quality Scottish salmon.
“In a time of economic difficulties, one of the best tools Scotland has to distinguish itself, grow its economy and create jobs is to produce premium products such as Scottish-farmed salmon.”
