Broughty Ferry funeral directors Robert Samson have been bought by Edinburgh-based company William Purves.
The takeover, for an undisclosed fee, also involves Dundee funeral directors James L Wallace, which Samson previously purchased.
Purves is a major firm of funeral directors in the Edinburgh area, with several branches in the capital.
It also has branches in Haddington, Dalkeith and Penicuik as well as in Peebles, Hawick, Galashiels and Elgin.
Chairman Tim Purves said: “We know Robert Samson has an excellent reputation as a trusted family business with the same ethos as ourselves.
“The operations in Broughty Ferry and Dundee will continue to trade under their own identities and there will be no changes to the staffing of four funeral directors, four pall-bearers and an administrator.”
A significant alteration has been made with the vehicles black hearses and limousines being replaced by palladium silver Mercedes Benz cars.
“We changed our cars to silver about seven years ago in response to changing trends, as there was a feeling that we should move away from black,” said Mr Purves.
“The change was well received and we have carried it throughout our business, with the silver cars now being used in Broughty Ferry and Dundee.
“That is the only change we have made.
“Clients in Broughty Ferry and Dundee can be sure that the same high quality of service they received from Samson and Wallace will continue to be provided with these two company names continuing.”
