Fife-based Briggs Group has been awarded a major offshore cable servicing contract.
The framework agreement with Danish power major Dong Energy will see the Burntisland-headquartered group provide a range of services to export and array cables for offshore windfarms throughout the UK and northern Europe.
The tie-up covers all Dong Energy’s sites in Europe, including nine offshore windfarms in the UK, five in Denmark and four in Germany.
The agreement is for five years with the possibility of extending for a further three years if both parties are happy with that arrangement.
Briggs Group managing director Collieson Briggs said it was a milestone moment for the group.
He said: “Concluding an agreement of this magnitude is a great achievement for our offshore cables business and our ongoing relationship with Dong Energy is a testimony of our experience in this area.
“I am delighted with the news of this significant win and extending our working relationship with a company like Dong, an established leader in offshore wind energy.”
Briggs first started working with Dong Energy last year offering an interim repair capability for their UK wind assets.
The new contract award, the value of which has not been disclosed, follows a competitive tender process.
Benj Sykes, vice-president and head of asset management for Dong Energy Wind Power, said the framework agreement was vital to the efficient operation of the firm’s offshore assets.
“Ensuring that export and array cable issues are quickly resolved is vital to maintaining reliable operation of our windfarms,” Mr Sykes said.
“This framework agreement builds on our existing relationship with the Briggs Group and is designed to ensure availability of power and mitigate against any possible production losses.”
