Around 100 jobs at Wood Group PSN have been secured after the North-East company agreed a £56m contract extension.
Under the terms of the agreement, the firm expects to continue to provide duty holder and asset management services to Teekay’s Hummingbird Spirit floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel through to March of 2015.
WGPSN has worked on the vessel, which is sited in the Chestnut field in the central North Sea, since it was first commissioned in 2008.
Hummingbird was the company’s first duty holder contract. The contract extension secures around 100 jobs, the majority of which are offshore.
The company’s other UK duty holder contract is for the Beatrice offshore platform and Nigg onshore terminal for Ithaca, an agreement which has been in place since 2009.
Dave Stewart, UK managing director of WGPSN, said: “As duty holder, we have complete responsibility for Hummingbird’s operations management and are proud of the quality, standard of delivery and excellent safety record we have recorded to date.
“In 2012 we were recognised for our achievements when we won the Offshore Contractors’ Association Challenge Award in the safety category, for an outstanding shutdown on Hummingbird,” Mr Stewart said.
“WGPSN is one of the few service companies in the UK to be contracted to duty holder responsibilities, and we’re delighted to receive this extension and continue to have the Hummingbird project in our UK portfolio,” Mr Stewart added.
