The group has been served by KPMG for the past 17 years, but the audit contract was recently put out to tender “in line with best practice”. PwC was chosen on the strength of a recommendation by Diageo’s audit committee. The appointment has to be approved by shareholders at the firm’s general meeting next September. Assuming that hurdle is overcome, PwC’s appointment will take effect for the financial year ending June 30 2016.
