A prototype power generator, which is being used to help define standards in the offshore wave industry, has produced its first electricity in a laboratory setting.
The tenth-scale WavePOD device will be rigorously tested at the Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls in Germany.
The prototype comprises a drive train, cylinder frame and power take off. It has been developed by Bosch Rexroth and Scottish wave energy industry leader Aquamarine Power.
CEO John Malcolm said the aim is aim is to finish lab testing by March and install a further prototype in real sea conditions on their Oyster 800 machine in Orkney in 2016.
