The sale of Simmental females at Stirling was dominated by a reduction of Rosalind Smith’s Sapling herd from Eaton, Tarporley, Cheshire.
Clive Houdley, Kirteleton House, Waterbeck, Lockerbie, bought 11 lots from the Sapling consignment including paying 8,500gns to secure the 4-year-old cow Sapling Bluebell and her February born heifer calf Sapling Fleurette by Atlow Crown. Bluebell, a Blackford Soul Man daughter, is back in calf to Atlow Crown.
Mr Houdley paid 4,400gns for another by Blackford Soul Man, the 16-month-old heifer Sapling Eugenia.
He paid 3,500gns for four-year-old cow Sapling Bernadette with her February born heifer calf Sapling Flora at foot.
Mr Houdley spent 34,000gns to secure his 11 lots, four of which, including the 8,500gns transaction, were bought in the name of his son Harry.
Mrs Smith also sold twice at 4,200gns. The first was three-year-old cow Sapling Charlene, with her Atlow Crown sired bull calf at foot. The buyer was Barry Harding of the Halloway herd, based inside London’s M25.
The second at the price was 18-month-old heifer Sapling Evette, also by Blackford Soul Man, selling to G Christie, Birchfield, Huntly.
JB Wilkie, Braigiewell, Echt, paid 3,400gns for four-year-old Craighill Number One daughter Sapling Amira with her February born bull calf by Atlow Crown at foot.
Outwith the reduction sale, show champion Scarthingwell Damselfly from Mr and Mrs D Pick sold for 3,600gns to R & C Simmers, Wester Pettmarcus, Clola, Peterhead.
AJ Wilson, Westcroft, Kilwinning, sold six-year-old cow Cairnview Andrea 7th for 3,400gns to A Milne, Middlemuir Croft, Methlick. By Popes Laird, she sold with an August-born heifer calf at foot.
Gerald and Morag Smith, Drumsleed, Fordoun, fetched 3,200gns for two-year-old heifer Drumsleed Destiny. The buyer was Inverdunning Ltd, Blairlogie.
In all 39 Simmental females sold to average £3,077, down £200 on the year.
The Sapling reduction saw 17 cows and calves average £3,255, and 10 heifers averaging £2,678.
