Aberdeen-Angus breeders from across the country descended on Thainstone for the 17th annual Black Beauty Bonanza.
The event, which was held on a Friday instead of a Saturday for the first time, attracted nearly 100 entries.
Judge Jim McMillan, of Craigmore, Brechin, hailed a “tremendous show of cattle”, with all the class winners and champions showing “great style and character”.
Taking top honours in the heifer calf championship was January-born Copperidge Royal Lady from Yorkshire breeder Neil Dobson, of Weald Moor Farms.
This one is by Rawburn Elysium and out of Wall Royal Lady.
She was shown by Carol Rettie.
This success follows taking the junior female championship title at the recent Stars of the Future show in Stirling.
The reserve heifer championship went to April-born Blelack Eyrie P283 from NF Massie & Sons, Blelack, Dinnet.
Shown by Graeme Massie, this one is by the overall Aberdeen-Angus breed champion at the Royal Highland Show in 2012, Blelack Egotist, and out of Blelack Eyrie K595, whose mother sold for 32,000gns at an on-farm sale two years ago.
The champion yearling heifer rosette was presented to February 2012-born Netherton Evita, which is joint owned by W & D McLaren and Highland Wagyu.
Shown by William McLaren Jr, this one is by Netherton Big Edition and out of Dunira Eudora.
In reserve was the February 2012-born Ballindalloch Black Belle from the world’s oldest Aberdeen-Angus herd at Ballindalloch Home Farm.
Shown by Susan Johnstone, the wife of the farm’s manager David Johnstone, and on her first outing, this one is by Lorabar Jasper Eric and out of Ballindalloch Black Beauty.
In the male classes the title of champion bull calf went to the January-born Scholand Dagger from J & R Leslie, Scholland, Virkie, Shetland.
Shown by Jamie Leslie, this one was previously unshown and is by Nightingale Proud Jake and out of Scholland Diana.
In reserve was April-born Tonley Jose Ebanks-Blake from Neil A Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford.
Shown by Mark Wattie, this was champion junior and native junior at the recent Stars of the Future show.
He is by Blelack Evor and out of Blelack Jubilee Erica.
Taking top honours in the yearling bull championship was April 2013-born Logie Emphasize from M Bruce & Partners, Logie, Ellon.
Shown by assistant cattleman James Reid, Logie Emphasize is by Glenbuchat Bruce and out of Logie Evesna.
In reserve was another lot from the Ballindalloch herd.
Born in Feburary 2012, Ballindallochg Earl is by Ardoyne Munro Prince and out of Ballindalloch Erica.
He took the champion calf title at last year’s Black Beauty Bonanza and the 2013 Stars of the Future calf show.
