Lobbying by UK farming unions including NFU Scotland has secured exemptions for agricultural vehicles from MOT testing.
An EU agreement at the end of last year made it seem likely many tractors and trailers would be required to pass a test.
However, MEPs in Strasbourg have agreed to ditch the proposals.
Originally all ‘O2’ graded trailers, such as a normal livestock trailer towed behind a four-wheel- drive vehicle, would have been subject to the MOT-style testing regime.
On tractor testing, NFUS also successfully argued that requiring the same level of testing as is required for HGVs was unreasonable.
