Trade peaked at 2,300gns at the show and sale of Beltex sheep at Lanark yesterday.
Leading the way was a ram lamb from Neale and Janet McQuistin’s Airyolland flock from New Luce, Newton Stewart.
This lamb, Airyolland Waltzer, is by the home-bred sire retained for use in the flock, Airyolland Pagan, and out of Airyolland Shimmy, an Airyolland Pirate daughter.
He sold in a two-way split to Neil Caul, Balkello, Angus, and David Thornley, of the Dooley flock in Hartshorne, Derbyshire.
The McQuistins also sold Airyolland Wee Jimmy, a ram lamb by the 16,000gns Ardstewart Super Mario, at 1,850gns.
Out of the Airyolland Navajo daughter, Airyolland Phillibeg, he sold to Alton and Vera Copland, Overhouse, Harray, Orkney, and the Mair family’s Aviemore flock at Muirfield, Turriff.
Tommy and Alan Taylor, Heatheryhall, Biggar, received 2,000gns for their best ram lamb, Heatheryhall Wizard, which stood third at the Highland Show this year.
Sired by Clary Prankster and out of a Drumrash-bred ewe, he sold to David Cunningham, Walkerdyke, Strathaven, and his son, also David, for their Walkerdyke and Avondale flocks.
Jock McMillan had a successful day with his Clary consignment, from Carse of Clary, Newton Stewart, selling to a top of 1,600gns.
Making that money was the shearling ram Clary Transformer, a Thimbleby Pegasus son out of the Eskdale Lionheart-sired Clary Poppy.
He was knocked down to Ballechin Farms, Ballinluig, Perthshire.
Mr McMillan also collected the championship rosette for his shearling Clary Technical, another by Pegasus, out of a Clary Kaiser Chief daughter.
He sold at 1,400gns to James McGarva, Horseclose, Annan.
Next best, Alan Sutherland, Bardnaheigh, Halkirk, Caithness, sold his shearling, Bardnaheigh Torque, at 1,300gns to Peter and Anne Moss’ Holmebeck flock
This Southholm Peter son is out of Kinchyle Paula, an Airyolland Galliano daughter.
Females sold to 1,300gns, for a ewe lamb from Aberdeenshire breeder Stuart Wood, Woolhillock, Skene.
Woodies Whoops A Daisy, a Glenkeen Sanders daughter, out of an imported Belgian dam, was knocked down to Stuart McCormack, Wester Deans, West Linton, for his Lugate flock.
Andrew Baillie’s reserve champion, Callacrag Tickle, led the gimmer trade, selling at 950gns to J&L Young, Muirton, Alford.
A Clary Navy daughter, she is out of Callacrag Paris.
