Texel ram lambs met a sound commercial trade at the Scottish Club Show and Sale at Lanark yesterday, with an 85% clearance of the 268 sheep on offer, writes Lynsey Clark.
Top price was the pre-sale champion, Craig Douglas VIP, from Steven Renwick’s Yarrow-based flock, which reached 2,600gns to Meikle Jackson, Wolfclyde, Biggar.
A son of the 18,000gns Sportsmans Unbeatable, this March-born lamb is out of a ewe by Teiglum Nevada.
Mr Renwick also achieved 1,600gns for Craig Douglas Vimto, a Tamnamoney Tuborg Gold son, out of the show ewe a Knock Ottis daughter which stood reserve champion at the 2010 Highland Show.
He also sold to the Wolfclyde flock.
Selling at 2,400gns was the best from Keith, Allan and Roy Campbell’s Cowal flock from Drimsynie, Argyll.
Cowal Volkswagon, a son of the 42,000gns Tullylagan Tonka, is out of a ewe by Muiresk Northern Dancer, which stood champion at Cockermouth as a gimmer.
He sold across the water to Sam and Alastair Gordon’s Linstair flock at Newry, Co Down.
Aberdeenshire’s Robbie Wilson sold two Milnbank lambs at 1,400gns apiece, both sons of Tullagh Saracen.
The first, out of a Millar’s Outstanding daughter, sold to HRC McCulloch, Kilmichael, Bute.
At the same money was another Saracen son, out of the ewe which also bred the 25,000gns Milnbank Special One, a Glenside Leiutenant daughter.
He sold to Cameron Gauld, Cairnam Texels, Auchterarder, and Kerr Jarvie’s Duncryne flock at Crieff.
At 1,250gns, the Clark family, North Garngour, Lesmahagow, sold Clarks Vapour, a son of Springwell Ulsterboy, out of a ewe by Mitchellhill Poker Face, to Allanton Farming, Darvel, Ayrshire.
Outwith the ram lambs, John Tough, Easterseat, Carluke, sold the three-shear tup, Durisdeer Snider, at 1,350gns, to Pete Brown, Newbridge, Carstairs Junction.
Inter-breed champion at Carnwath Show last year, he is by Corrie Pharmasist, out of a ewe by Hull House Ma Man.
A draft sale of gimmers from John Adamson’s Swaites flock at Pettinain, Biggar, sold to a top of 1,200gns, for a Swaites Toffee daughter, out of a home-bred ewe by Humeston Port. She went to Malcolm Coubrough, Hartside, Biggar.
