Our Community Standards
What you need to know
We encourage you to comment on our articles and engage in a lively debate about the many different issues covered by our journalists.
To make sure everyone feels welcome to be part of this community discussion, we insist on some basic standards of behaviour.
- Be respectful. Challenging another person’s point of view is acceptable; personal attacks are not.
- Avoid bad language. You may think a word is mild but someone else may find it offensive.
- Racist, sectarian, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, and other hate-speech – or anything that could be interpreted as such – will not be tolerated.
- All comments must be relevant to the subject of the article.
- Do not promote or solicit commercial goods or services, post website links or otherwise advertise a business.
- Please do not share any personal information such as contact details or other private data – especially not other people’s.
- Avoid contributions which might cause you or us legal problems. This includes, amongst other things, material that may be defamatory, in breach of copyright, in contempt of court or invasive of privacy.
- We reserve the right to moderate or delete User Generated Content and we will not enter into any discussion of our reasons for doing so.
All comments are assessed. Any deemed by our moderators to breach the above standards or to be at odds in any other way with civil debate may be blocked or removed.
If you see anything posted on the site by another user of the site which you believe to be in breach of our standards and/or terms and conditions, please click the ‘report’ link for that comment to send it to our team for review. This facility should not be used to express disagreement with a point of view.
These standards sit alongside and should be read together with our Website Terms and Conditions of Use which can be found here: www.dctmedia.co.uk/terms-conditions.
It is a condition of registration as a member of the community that our Website Terms and Conditions of Use and Community Standards be observed. Any member who persistently breaches these Community Standards, or our Terms and Conditions, may have their posting privileges withdrawn. The length of any suspension will be at our sole discretion.
If your posting privileges are withdrawn, you may not open another profile with us and we reserve the right to terminate any such profile.
